Is GH’s Drew the Most Hated Soap Character of All Time?

Drew on General Hospital just keeps proving he’s a despicable person. Soap fans have not been shying away from shouting their hatred of the character, either.

The disdain for Drew (Cameron Mathison) has grown even more because of how he treats Scout (Cosette Abinante). After Drew added Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) to the list of people ready to take him out, it got us wondering if there was a more hated character on soaps.

JR Ewing Vs. Congressman Cutthroat

GH star Laura Wright used Instagram Stories to reshare the intense scenes between Alexis and Drew, where he took away her access to Scout and talked about Sam (Kelly Monaco) not being alive.

“These scenes were so good!!!! Cameron you’re the new JR Ewing !!! Haaa. Woohoo.” Wright wrote on the image. It was shared by Mathison and began making the rounds on social media.

One fan declared on X, “#GH. Sorry Cameron. Drew is worse than JR Ewing, and I never saw Dallas.”

Those who watched Dallas know that JR Ewing (Larry Hagman) was one of the most hated men on television. However, JR was also one of the most iconic and loved characters, even though it took time.

While Drew once had some redeeming qualities, he is no longer likable. Anytime he opens his mouth, it makes us cringe, so we agree Drew is way worse than JR.

The Big Debate

Let’s be honest, over the years, there have been plenty of villains in soaps. Days of Our Lives Stefano (Joseph Mascolo), The Bold and the Beautiful’s Sheila (Kimberlin Brown), GH’s Helena (Constance Towers), and David Kimble from The Young and the Restless are a few of those villains.

The keyword there is villains. Soap fans love to hate them and appreciate them for the good, entertaining drama they bring to the show. That is not the case with Drew.

One Reddit thread bluntly asked if GH fans loved to hate Drew or just hated him. The overwhelming answer was that fans hate him and want him to go away for good.
