Emmerdale Shock: Charity tries to buy silence — Is the truth about to explode?

Emmerdale’s Charity makes a big mistake – but here’s why she won’t be caught out yet

Charity Dingle made a big mistake on Emmerdale tonight, but it will be a while before she is caught out in the ongoing pregnancy storyline involving Ross Barton. With husband Mackenzie Boyd still none the wiser, could Charity’s latest move backfire?

Charity has been involved in a dramatic storyline recently, with the character agreeing to be a surrogate for Sarah Sugden and Jacob Gallagher. It was soon revealed that the baby she was carrying wasn’t the younger pair’s, leaving Charity in a pickle.

Mack discovered this fact, but incorrectly assumed that the baby was his. In actuality, the father is Ross after a one-night stand he had with Charity. With various secrets held tight to her chest, Charity has been at a loss as to what to do.

Tonight’s (15 January) episode of the ITV soap began with Mack surprisingly returning to work, with the figure stressing that he needed to earn money given that a baby could be on the way. Ross, with a guilty conscience, told him to slow down.

Ross headed to Charity and chastised her for letting Mack think that he would be playing “happy families” once the baby was born, though Charity urged him to keep his mouth shut – especially in the public setting of The Woolpack.

The discussion continued elsewhere, with Ross criticising Charity for letting Mack go back to work while he was injured. Eventually, Charity admitted to Ross that the baby was his, but said that the revelation would “blow [her] family apart”.

Charity maintained that telling Mack the truth wasn’t the best ploy, though Ross urged her to reconsider as “all hell would break loose” anyway. Ross was unmoved, leaving Charity to make her boldest – and perhaps daftest – move yet.

Seeing that Ross wouldn’t budge, she attempted to bribe him with money in exchange for his silence. The ploy immediately backfired, with Ross branding her an “absolute disgrace” before he implied that he would tell Mack right now…

Despite Charity’s reckless move, it will be a while before she is forced to face the consequences of her actions, with Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw confirming that the real drama would begin when the baby is born.

“The truth surrounding Charity’s pregnancy is set to blow wide open,” teased the producer, who joined the soap in 2018. “Mackenzie mistakenly believes he could be the baby’s father.”

“But the secret that Ross is the real father is still under wraps,” she added. “With the baby due in spring, the birth may be the event that finally exposes all of Charity’s secrets…”
