Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) didn’t hold back in Emmerdale as she confronted Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant), launching into a heated tirade about her supposed value as a doctor in a bid to get him to drop his complaint.
The dastardly doc, as viewers know, has tormented Jacob for months, using her position as his so-called mentor to trip him up at every turn, making him second guess every decision he makes.
Poor Jacob has been working all the hours to try and support wife Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) as they prepare for life as parents but doing so has proven difficult with Todd breathing down his neck, giving him unrealistic deadlines to meet and berating his efforts when he succeeds.
Fed up of the abuse, Jacob went to HR earlier in the week, reporting Todd’s vile behaviour in the hopes of stopping her from bullying others like she has done him.
Todd suspected he was up to something when she saw him leaving the HR department and quizzed him for more information, resulting in Jacob seeing red as he revealed all about how he won’t put up with her abuse of power any longer.
The tables soon turned, however, when Todd was needed to help Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who had given birth to Jacob and Sarah’s child (or so they think) in the lift at Hotten General.
Todd was the only available doctor and thus she operated on Charity, saving her life.
Jacob thanked her for doing so but Todd saw it as an opportunity to gain the upper hand, using those manipulation tactics of hers to try and gaslight the medical student into thinking that he’d be responsible for the deaths of countless other lives if she were to lose her job as a result of his complaint.
Appalled, Jacob fought back, stating that the reason for his complaint is to ensure that any future brilliant doctor’s light isn’t expunged by her cruel behaviour.
‘How many key players have you forced out of these over-stretched, understaffed wards you supposedly care about?’, he said. ’30 odd years [of working in a hospital], I bet its hundreds’.
But Todd wasn’t having any of it, branding him ‘weak’. Despite her best efforts, however, Jacob remained steadfast and refused to withdraw his complaint.
