Heartbreaking news about Jane Bright has sent shockwaves through the Survivor community, with fans and former castaways mourning the loss of one of the show’s most beloved personalities.

Jane Bright, the unforgettable Survivor: Nicaragua contestant who won over viewers with her grit and charisma, has died at the age of 71.

Her daughter, Ashley Hammett, confirmed the devastating news in a Facebook post on Thursday after Bright was discovered earlier that day in her North Carolina home. The announcement immediately sparked an outpouring of grief from fans who remembered Bright as one of the standout personalities of Season 21.

Remembering the 17 Survivor Contestants Who Have Died Since Competing on the Show

“Today Jane Hammett Bright was found passed away within her home by a good friend and county sheriff,” Hammett wrote in the post. A cause of death has not been disclosed.

Born on Dec. 13, 1953, in Jackson Springs, North Carolina, Bright was 56 when she competed on the CBS reality series in 2010. The season divided contestants into two tribes based on age, and Bright began her journey on the older Espada tribe.

Even as the season’s oldest player, Bright quickly proved she was anything but fragile. She was praised for her toughness, work ethic, and the energy she brought to the camp, earning respect from both teammates and viewers alike.

Although she became the 13th castaway voted out, Bright’s impact did not end there. In a major fan-driven twist, she went on to win the Sprint Fan Favorite award — along with a $100,000 prize — cementing her place as one of the most memorable contestants of the season.

Following the news of her death, tributes began pouring in from Survivor fans and former cast members. Among them was Survivor: Ghost Island alum Donathan Hurley, who described Bright as “a firecracker.”

“Lord, I sure did get my heart broken when I opened up Facebook after work!” he wrote on X. “One of my favorite Survivor family members, as I call them all, has passed away. I loved Jane so much!!! This lady was a firecracker! Always ready to have a good time and a good laugh! RIP Jane.”
