But the question is, why-John Black (Drake Hogestyn) dropped off the grid; might Shane have as well, and the person not returning calls isn’t Shane?

Marlena and Steve Set To Track Down Shane In DC

After that worrying experience in which Marlena fears the worst-and she’s absolutely correct-Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) decides to go to DC with her.

There, they will confront Shane in person and try to get more information where John was supposed to be, he had been in deep cover for several months on a secret mission.

Most DOOL viewers know that likely in the next few weeks, confirmation of John’s death will be revealed-because of the real life death of Drake Hogestyn.

But the backstory of what led up to John’s death and manner of death has just begun to play out, and considering Shane isn’t calling, there could be a reason.

It’s a good possibility that his evil twin Drew Donovan (Charles Shaughnessy) could be involved not only in John’s disappearance, but also in Shane’s, and it isn’t Shane in DC!

Drew Donovan’s Scandalous Resumé

Drew Donovan first appears in 1988 when he kidnaps Carrie Brady (Christie Clark), Roman Brady’s (Josh Taylor) daughter. At that time, he was an assassin known as Iago, working for the notorious Stefano DiMera (Joe Mascolo).

Drew’s dark path leads him to murder Ellen Hawk (Pamela Brull), who was not only Stefano’s wife but also Benjy Hawk’s (Jim Lunsford) mother.

In Salem, Drew romances Calliope Jones (Arleen Sorkin), forms a close bond with his sister-in-law Kimberly Brady Donovan (Patsy Pease), and meets his niece Eve Donovan (Kassie DePaiva).

Alongside Roman, who is later revealed to be John Black, and Jeremiah Brown (Mark Derwin), Drew undergoes training in a secret location owned by Stefano in Thailand.

Drew’s Further Dirty Dealings

In Thailand, he trained under the guidance of the Kung-Fu master Orion Hawk (Sandy McPeak) a relative of Ellen and Benjy.

In a shocking turn of events, he kills Ambassador Chung (uncredited) by detonating the entire building, resulting in Benjy losing his hearing.

Eventually, Drew’s true loyalties come to light, leading to Shane Donovan and Kim being captured by Stefano.

However, Drew experiences a change of heart and aids Shane and Kim in their escape from Stefano’s island, sustaining injuries in the process. He ultimately survives and departs from Salem in January 1989.

Drew Pretended To Be Shane In The First Season Of Beyond Salem

In the inaugural season of Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, he makes a dramatic return, revealing the tragic news of his wife Camilla Donovan’s (uncredited) death.

Embracing his darker side once more, he assumes the identity of his twin brother, Shane, and allies himself with the cunning Dimitri von Leuschner (Peter Porte) in a nefarious plot to pilfer Alamainian gemstones.

Drew’s sinister plan involves harnessing these precious stones to activate satellite lasers in space, aiming to wreak havoc on various locations worldwide, including Salem itself.

However, his malevolent scheme is thwarted when John, Marlena, Shane, and Billie Reed (Lisa Rinna) intervene, ultimately leading to his capture and imprisonment.

Drew Has Always Been An Escape Artist

Drew has always been an escape artist, and no one would be surprised if he’s kidnapped Shane and turns out to be a factor in John’s disappearance and death.

The name of one of John and Roman’s oldest enemies, Milo Harp aka Orpheus (George delHoyo) hasn’t been mentioned in a while. He could still be in prison, but when Clyde Weston (James Read) escaped no one knew right away either.

Might Drew have teamed up with Orpheus and a factor in John’s disappearance-might Drew have switched with Shane and led John into a trap? Sad to say, but Drew might be in cahoots with Orpheus, who it will turn out got his final revenge on John and Marlena!
