Monday started off with one heck of a punch (quite literally) on Days of Our Lives as Johnny confronted EJ over conceiving him by forcing his mother to sleep with him. We’re not sure if Johnny will ever forgive his father and repair their relationship. And honestly, we’re not sure that he should.
EJ did something truly terrible and, as Johnny told his father, the DiMera legacy is pain, violence and suffering. Perhaps it would be better if Johnny just cut it all out and left it all behind. Either way, now that the truth is out there, it’s sure to spread throughout Salem in the blink of an eye. And that could have even more dire consequences for EJ.
One thing folks (and us) have been trying to remember is whether or not Belle knows what EJ did to her sister. The parents and grandparents of Johnny and Allie all know, but if they all made a pact to keep it quiet, Belle may not be in on it.
Plus, Johnny told Chanel that not everyone in his family knew about this. After all, the more people who did know, the more chance it had of getting back to the kids. And that’s kind of what happened. Roman let something slip, then Johnny pushed Kate until she filled in the rest. Honestly, it’s kind of amazing that it’s stayed hidden for as long as it has.
When we spoke with Martha Madison, we asked how EJ’s shooting might affect her. Will she suddenly feel bad for him and be drawn towards him even more, or just shrug it off as him getting his just deserts?
“I think that is the inner struggle for Belle, honestly,” she acknowledged. “She feels both of those things.”
But if she feels these things without knowing what EJ did to Sami, that could tip her over the edge of hatred and disgust. Yeah, kidnapping, attempted murder, brainwashing and, well, whatever other schemes EJ and his dad cooked up over the years are one thing. Honestly, those are all just pretty standard soap opera villainy. Belle could (and we can see, kind of has) get past those fairly easily.
But sleeping with the man who raped your sister is disturbing and upsetting on a whole other level. We can’t imagine Belle knew about that, which means finding out is going to shake her to her core. Maybe enough for her to take her anger out on EJ… with a gun?
Even if Belle isn’t the one to pull the trigger on EJ, though, this could be a turning point in his shooting. Because if it pushes the part of her that wants to see him pay into taking over, she may end up doing whatever she has to as DA to make sure that his shooter never goes down for the crime. Just as Hope did with Stefano, the shooter could quite literally get away with murder. Or at least attempted murder…
Blowing the case like that may cost Belle her job, but as Madison pointed out, sometimes you really aren’t done with addiction until it takes everything away from you. She just told Brady she can’t seem to quit EJ — and if she finds out what he did to Sami, that could fill her with enough self-loathing to tear both their lives down.
