Days Of Our Lives Spoilers: Susan Seaforth Hayes Pays Tribute To Bill Hayes
Days Of Our Lives fans knows that Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) will soon pass away on the Peacock soap. Of course, Bill passed away several months ago and Days plans to have several cast members back for his funeral. However, Susan plans to honor her husband and long time screen partner with a heartfelt tribute.
Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – A Super Couple Before Anyone Knew They Existed
Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal that the soap super couple concept did not exist when Susan took over as Julie Olsen in 1968.
A few actresses had played the role before but they just weren’t quite right. Bill Hayes joined the cast two years later in 1970 and played the role until his death on January 12, 2024.
Doug and Julie have the distinction of becoming one of soaps first super couples. In the meantime, Susan and Bill fell in love and were married until his death at 98 years old. Susan spoke with Variety about her plans for Doug’s memorial service.
“I really appreciate what the producers have done to honor him — to allow me to give pretty much the same eulogy [on the show for Doug] that I gave [Bill] at our church. I certainly didn’t expect that.”
“He deserved to be lifted up, and I was so, so pleased that [his death] wasn’t just passed over as something that happened off stage. It happens very much on stage too. It was difficult to do, but not as difficult as living through it in life.”
DOOL Spoilers – A Montage Of The Early Days
Susan reveals that the eulogy has already been taped but they are still putting the finishing touches on the scenes from the early years. After all, there are many years of special moments to have to decide on.
Susan also talked about how supportive everyone at the show has been since Bill’s death. Susan says Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans) was there the last few days of Bill’s life, right in the room with them.
Susan goes on to say, “So, you know, that kind of support is wonderful. He deserved to be loved by a wide audience, and he was. And now I want to just be as good as he was, as good a person and as good a performer, and in return, do the best I can with the years that are coming in front of the show, for the future.”
Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Falling In Love In Front Of The World
Susan also spoke about their real life romance, “We fell in love with each other in front of our viewers, and they knew it before we knew it.” Susan credits Days of Our Lives for “my career, my happy marriage, [and] my mother’s writing career.”
Of course, Susan’s mother was actress and screen writer, Elizabeth Harrower. Elizabeth worked on the writing teams of soaps Susan had been on.
It is only fitting that Julie give Doug’s eulogy for the audience as well as the cast. Are you planning to watch the tribute to not only the love of Julie’s life, but Susan’s as well?
