Emmerdale star casts doubt on one suspect in Ray’s murder mystery
Emmerdale‘s Ray Walters finally met his grisly fate this month, just days after murdering his mother and partner-in-crime Celia Daniels. The villain’s lifeless body was revealed to viewers while being dragged away by an unknown figure.
Having terrorised most of the village during his short stay, Ray’s death came as a relief to plenty of characters. With more than one suspect in the frame for his murder, next week’s flashback episodes will expose who actually delivered the final blow, and why.
Monday’s (19 Janurary) episode will focus on Laurel Thomas, who unceremoniously dumped Ray after discovering his heinous crimes. On the day of his death, Ray pleaded with Laurel for a second chance in their relationship, but she made it clear that she wanted nothing more to do with him.
The upcoming flashback will see Laurel playing with fire, as she and Nicola King devise a plan to hand Ray into the police by luring him back to Mulberry Cottage. Could her risky scheme have ultimately led to Ray’s death?
“Nicola’s plan was for Laurel to tell Ray she let him go, then try to get him back, and then they would call the police, with Nicola being in another room to lure him back,” explained Charlotte Bellamy, who plays Laurel. “She is completely conflicted, she is and she isn’t comfortable at all.”
Bellamy highlighted that it would be very out of character for Laurel to have killed Ray, given her strong morals and values. She explained that Laurel had deep feelings for Ray before realising his true nature.
“She’s a woman of faith and she loved him. I don’t think the audience will think she could have done it, but they’ll have to watch and find out.”
Could Ray’s betrayal have sparked a hidden rage in the pious character?
“She definitely was falling for him, without a doubt. She thought he was full of charisma and everything she was looking for,” the star added.
“Initially, she is so shocked she can’t comprehend the Ray she knew versus the Ray in front of her. He gets quite angry, knowing he will lose her, and she sees a side she hasn’t seen. However, he is genuine about his feelings for her.”
