General Hospital Cancellation Rumors Spark Fan Uproar
General Hospital Cancellation Rumors Spark Fan Uproar
General Hospital (GH) spoilers indicate that the land of Port Charles has been spinning since April 1963, with award-winning writing and acting that has captivated audiences for decades now.
The soap certainly has a huge and devoted fan following; however, due to some action recently, audiences can’t help but feel as if the daytime drama could be on the cusp of cancellation.
Horrible Casting Decision
GH fans are dedicated and loyal to the soap; however, when a favorite exits (who may not want to leave the show) viewers can lash out by boycotting the daytime drama.
In 2021, top star Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) was released over the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, but the show quickly made up for that by hiring Burton back in early 2024 once the policy was dropped.
Still, as Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall) was let go later in 2024, and as a huge fan favorite, GH fans have been voicing their displeasure with the soap’s decision to not only dismiss Monaco but have her character murdered.
Sam died in such a way that would be virtually impossible to bring her back. After she passed, Jason, her mom Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), and her fiancé Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) all had lengthy goodbyes.
More recently, Charles Mesure (Jack Brennan) left the soap, although the reason behind it is unknown. He, too, was a very popular performer among fans. Not to mention, Chad Duell’s (Michael Corinthos) recent departure; however, there’s some chance he could return.
Fans’ Disdain for Frank Valentini
Getting back to Monaco’s exit, fans have let their voice be heard on social media, and many have rallied around Kelly.
Unfortunately, their target has been the soap’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, and GH viewers have been quite vocal about how they’d love to see him fired. Especially over Monaco’s dismal and her character’s storyline exit.
The Writing Team Has Been Wonky
2024 marked a year of change for the soap, especially its writing team. The year started with Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte as head writers.
When May hit, Mulcahey was out, and Korte ran the ship on her own. Then by the time August rolled around, Chris Van Etten joined Korte as co-head writer.
This caused a ton of wonkiness within storyline direction and even the personality of some characters and their relationships with other residents within Port Charles last year.
Fans were confused and sometimes outraged by the actions of some characters, and at times, bored with the overall plots in the soap.
The Ratings Have Suffered
As per Yahoo!, GH ratings have gone down. Unfortunately, if the ratings aren’t there, despite the soap’s incredible tenure, ABC would have no issue canceling it. But will that happen to GH, or can the daytime drama turn things around?
