We’re probably all still a bit shocked over the news that broke this weekend that Chad Duell would be leaving General Hospital shortly. On top of that, executive producer Frank Valentini promised, Michael will not be recast! So when Duell exits, so too does Michael. It’s a bit bittersweet as it keeps open the possibility that the actor could return to the character he’s made his own over the years, but it still means saying goodbye to him and Michael! And, it seems, neither we nor the fans are alone in being all up in our feels about the exit!
Friends and co-stars took to Duell’s original Instagram post to wish him well, share the love and admit they’re also unhappy to see him leave!
“Still mad,” Laura Wright (Carly) wrote to her TV son. “But I adore you!!” And in response, the fans all but begged Wright to put her foot down as Duell’s “mom” and make him stay! But what kind of parenting would that be if she didn’t let her boy spread his wings?
Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) couldn’t let his TV bro go without a little teasing. “Who wrote this for you?” he joked. “Just kidding. I love you, Cheddar.” And so too, does TV sis Eden McCoy (Josslyn), writing simply, “I love you.”
“Good luck with everything,” Scarlett Spears’ (Donna) mom wrote in reply. “Scarlett had so much fun with you, and getting to know you.” Scarlett Fernandez (Charlotte) added, “You will be missed! Thanks for always being one of the friendliest and funniest guys on set!”
The congratulations kept going in the comments, of course, with Cameron Mathison writing, “Love you, brother.” And while the love is certainly true in real life, we’re not sure if Michael feels the same towards his Uncle Drew onscreen! Actually, after watching Michael throw Drew under the bus to Curtis yesterday, we doubt there’s much love between them at all right now. We can’t help but think that Drew and Willow’s affair is going to have a huge hand in Michael leaving town. Well, that and his and Willow’s fling!
Speaking of both ladies…
“Love you, Chad!” Port Charles wife Katelyn MacMullen shared. And Sofia Mattsson chimed in with support and caring, “You will be so missed!! Excited to see what’s next!”
“Aw, sending you love and blessing with all you do Chad,” Andrea Bogart (ex-Abby) wrote, along with “big hugs” as she recalled when her and Duell’s characters were together as “Mabby.”
And as for Duell’s onscreen dad, it sounds like we’ll be getting to hear a whole lot from Maurice Benard (Sonny) as Duell is set to appear on Benard’s State of Mind vlog. And, as Kat suggests, we’re probably going to hear more about what prompted this decision, what it means to Duell and all about Benard’s relationship with his TV son.
