Rex had been the quarterback at Syracuse University, serving as a backup between 2017 and 2020 and appearing in 30 games total — 16 of them as the primary quarterback. He also overcame testicular cancer in 2018; he was diagnosed that March, underwent treatment, and was declared cancer‑free by June of the same year.
Rex had been engaged to Savanna Morgan after six years together; the couple announced their engagement less than a month before his death.
