Color us relieved after watching Monday’s General Hospital that Liz is going to come out of that car crash with barely a scratch. Well, we say that, but she has suffered a broken leg and will need surgery, so maybe a bit more than a scratch. But luckily, it’s nothing life threatening. Ric on the other hand…

While he survived the crash, Ric suffered severe head trauma. He’s being rushed into surgery, and while the doctors are doing everything they can, they aren’t saying whether they’ll be able to save him or not. And even if they do, he could end up in a coma which, in the soap opera world, can be a fate as good as death.

And we’ll admit to being more than a little worried about Ric leaving one way or another. General Hospital is clearly ramping up the animosity between Molly and Kristina once again. And since this is all Kristina’s fault for cutting the breaks on Ric’s car (albeit thinking she was cutting Ava’s breaks), killing Ric would utterly destroy her relationship with Molly. Probably for good.

But that’s also why we’ve got hope that Ric will survive this — and stick around on the canvas! For one thing, it just seems beyond cruel to kill off yet another of Molly’s loved ones. First her and TJ’s baby, then her sister, now her dad? Surely General Hospital wouldn’t decimate her life that much!

For another, while the show may want to keep the drama going between Kristina and Molly, it doesn’t seem like they’d push things quite so far to ruin their relationship forever. And that’s what would happen if Ric died and everyone learned that it was Kristina’s fault.

So for now, we’re fairly confident that Ric will pull through this. In what shape, though, we don’t know. But there has to be room left for Kristina’s redemption and murdering her sister’s father would be it for her.

Plus, Rick Hearst is in the credits once again. Unless the show is going for the ultimate cruel fake out, we’ve got a feeling that Ric will be safe. Or as safe as anyone ever is in Port Charles!
