Is Cody Ready to Come Clean? GH’s Josh Kelly Teases His Next Move
Cody Bell’s hustler ways collide with his desire for redemption as Josh Kelly teases a turning point.

General Hospital’s Cody Bell has always walked the fine line between hustler and hero, and his portrayer Josh Kelly knows exactly how to tap into that inner conflict. After learning Mac was his father, Cody wanted to turn his life around and become a better person. However, he agreed to work for Kristina and try to seduce Ava in order to break up her and Ric. Now, Kelly opens up about how Cody’s having second thoughts, and why his character may finally be ready to face himself head-on.
A Real Life Within Reach
Kelly sat down with Soap Opera Digest to share his thoughts on his character’s moral conundrum. When Cody admitted to Tracy (Jane Elliot) about participating in Kristina’s (Kate Mansi) scheme, she gave him the sage advice of respecting himself and not stooping to his old ways. Kelly revealed, “That got under his skin.” He explained that the friends and family Cody has discovered in Port Charles have changed his perspective.
The actor noted that people in real life don’t often learn the same lesson Cody’s learning. But the reason for Cody’s willingness to change for the better is because, “He’s starting to see that he can have a real life and he doesn’t have to settle for just trying to hustle his way through life to get by.” He stated that Cody just needs to be honest with everyone in his life.
Cody’s Only Way Forward: Honesty
Sparks have been flying between Cody and Molly (Kristen Vaganos), but Cody doesn’t see that. He doesn’t even realize that as she writes her new romance novel, she’s been fantasizing about “Cowboy Cody.” Kelly stated that he’s been portraying the character as feeling Molly just doesn’t dig him. He explained, “[Cody’s] thinking, ‘If Molly had any feelings for me, Kristina wouldn’t have hatched this plan.’ ”
In the end, Kelly says that Cody will come to realize that Tracy is right, and he should develop his own self-worth. And in doing that, Cody has to realize that because everything’s gotten so complicated, the only road he can take “is to come clean.” Hopefully, he doesn’t reveal to anybody that he was involved in the scheme, and just backs out gracefully to prevent anyone from distrusting him like they used to. (Are Cody and Molly the couple that daytime is missing?)
