Season 7 of Welcome to Plathville has documented the family’s concerns about Lydia and Zac’s fast-moving relationship after they decided to get married just a few months after meeting. Now that their wedding episode is about to air, they tell PEOPLE that they’ve chosen not to tune in.
“I’m not going to watch the wedding episode, because I know that there was a lot of drama that was going on between four people,” Lydia, 21, explains. “So we have our wedding video, and we have the 120 people that were fully supporting us, and we don’t need to go watch it with the four people who weren’t.”
“It is very disappointing how certain people used that opportunity to just get attention and try to make a mess of things,” she adds.
The drama Lydia is referring to involves brothers Ethan and Isaac — who not only disapprove of her marriage due to speculation that Zac is gay, but also have a brewing feud with their other brother Micah and his girlfriend Veronica Peters.
“That morning we just woke up and we were like, ‘Okay, it’s been a journey, it’s been a ride, but we are choosing joy,’” Lydia says. “And that’s what we chose. And from my perspective, I saw no drama, no tension, no anything throughout the day. I had a peaceful wedding day.”
“We both did,” Zac notes.
Lydia continues, “We had a joy-filled, peaceful wedding day, and that’s probably not what’s going to be portrayed on the show, because it’s not just sharing our storyline, it’s sharing everyone else’s as well. But for the bride and groom, we had a great day.”
Last month, the midseason trailer offered fans a look into a dramatic altercation on Lydia’s wedding night between Isaac and Micah that left him needing stitches. This came at the same time that Micah was contemplating ending his relationship with Veronica because she wasn’t getting along with his family.
She also accused Ethan’s girlfriend, Teegan Nichols, of having an OnlyFans account, and further alleged that she caught Micah looking for naked photos of Teegan online.
“You’re not seeing her ever again. Ever,” Veronica declared during couples’ therapy. She also refused to sit next to them at the wedding.
“Veronica’s become quite a little demon,” Ethan said of Veronica. “I despise her with the fury of 1,000 Suns.”
“What really kills me is Lydia is so religious and holy,” he said. “God told her to marry Zac, but God did not tell her to listen to the advice of everyone else in her life?”
“That doesn’t make sense to me,” he continued. “I just don’t want Lydia to be taken advantage of. I don’t want Lydia to get hurt. Too many red flags that I see to be okay with it. Like, who knows what life she could be missing out on with someone that maybe is her soulmate.”
Isaac shared Ethan’s frustration: “My whole family feels uncomfortable,” he claimed, going on to tell their mom Kim, “This thing feels forced. It doesn’t feel natural.”
