Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) from General Hospital (GH) on ABC called out Kanye West and Britney Spears recently. He’s not friends with either of them, and they never did anything to him. So, read on to find out why he’s talking about the two mega-entertainers.
Talking About Two Mega-Stars
Maurice started off his State of Mind podcast this week by revisiting his bipolar disorder. He was still young, in his early 20s, when he first melted down. Sent to a mental hospital, it took time to figure out what was wrong. He said that he started acting “out of character” and would go into manic episodes that were a bit scary for his parents and friends.
Candidly, Maurice Benard mentioned three nervous breakdowns, plus his treatment with Lithium and terrible depression. But he made it through, and he reaches a lot of people. These days, he’s proud that people belong to his community of followers on State of Mind, where he brings awareness about mental health problems. His beef with Kanye and Britney involves the fact that, in his opinion, they won’t admit to mental health problems, or the mega-stars are not getting treated for it.
Kanye Is Bipolar?
It’s not the first time that the actor believed Kanye needed help. In fact, he mentioned it in 2020. Emphasizing that he is “not a professional,” the GH star spoke about Kanye first. In part, he said:
I don’t know how long ago [Kanye] was on a stage and I said to my wife, because he was saying things to the audience and crying, and said ‘they’re going to put him in a in a hospital.’”And sure enough, a couple days later, they put him in a hospital… I’ve only lived with bipolar for over close to 40 years. And so I can kind of see signs and everything.
Continuing, the real-life Sonny Corinthos explained his issue with West. He said, “But the problem that I have is somebody like Kanye West…has an album that says ‘bipolar is my superpower’” or something like that. So he admits that he’s bipolar, but obviously, or I don’t know because I don’t know him, but he doesn’t take his medication.”
The Problem With No Treatment
“If you don’t take your medication, you’re just going to keep having breakdowns,” Maurice Benard said. And next, he talked more about why he thinks Kanye isn’t taking his meds. Then he called him out by saying, “somebody like him with his influence… just to talk about being bipolar, he could help millions.”
Once again, he emphasised that this is his personal opinion from what he has seen that makes him believe Kanye is either not taking his medication, or he simply won’t talk about it.
With Britney, he doesn’t know for certain if she is bipolar. However, he could recollect it had been talked about at some stage. If she is bipolar, then he feels that she should also reach out to her millions of followers.
Britney Has A Mental Health Problem?
Maurice theorized that something is wrong with Britney Spears. He added, “It just seems out of the ordinary, something’s happening with her. Now, where all this ends up with Kanye, with Britney, with whoever else that isn’t getting help, I don’t know where it’s going to end up, but where it can end up is scary.”
