Maurice Benard, from General Hospital who plays the role Sonny Corinthos, recently shared a sweet tribute to his wife, Paula Smith Benard, on their 35th wedding anniversary. Read on to find what he said.
A Sweet Tribute On Marriage
On Monday, Maurice posted throwback photos on Instagram, reflecting on their 40 years together. Married since August 11, 1990, Benard began the caption with a question: “What does it mean?” Then he answered his own question, saying, “It means being with someone for 40 years. Who has never wavered, always there for me and our children.”
The couple has four kids: Cailey, Cassidy, Joshua, and Heather, whom they adopted after the passing of Paula’s younger sister.
Maurice Benard praised Paula’s unwavering support, writing, “[She] has never made me feel small, when in need always says to me, ‘you are stronger than you know.’” He closed the tribute by calling her “the rock and holding it all together.”
A Loving Family Relationship
ABC fans are familiar with Benard’s deep love for his family. Last Christmas, he got emotional while surprising Paula with a rescue puppy. He also frequently shares his joy over his granddaughter, Tiana, the daughter of his daughter Cailey and her husband, Carlos Avila.
The actor, who’s very vocal about his mental health journey, detailed his struggles and Paula’s support in his memoir, Nothing General About It: How Love (and Lithium) Saved Me On and Off General Hospital. The book covers his childhood, career, and how his wife stood by him through his toughest moments.
