Daugherty’s portrayal of Brian brought plenty of drama to Will (Chandler Massey) and Sonny’s (Freddie Smith) romance. A pre-med student at Salem University, Brian first crossed paths with Will at a gay bar, where Will later introduced him to Sonny. It didn’t take long for Brian to stir up trouble. He bluntly called out Will for staying in the closet, even suggesting Will seemed more comfortable being suspected of murder than living openly—remarks that left Sonny uneasy. From there, Brian set his sights on Sonny, refusing to back down despite being turned down.
The tension boiled over when Brian kissed Sonny while they were closing the coffeehouse—a moment Will happened to see through the window. Brian wasted no time twisting the knife, later hinting to Will that he and Sonny had taken things further, even though it wasn’t true. He and Sonny did come close to being intimate at Brian’s apartment, but Sonny put on the brakes, admitting he wasn’t ready. Brian’s time in Salem may have been short-lived, but he left a lasting mark, creating jealousy, misunderstandings, and a full-on love triangle that kept viewers glued to their screens.
Webster played Nicholas as the first adult incarnation of the character, which was originated by Erik von Detten. The grown-up Nicholas burst onto the scene, arriving alongside his aunt, Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel), who was feigning a terminal illness in a high-stakes revenge plot against Stefano (the late Joseph Mascolo). On the romantic front, Nicholas set his sights on none other than Kate (Lauren Koslow). The pair began a steamy affair—but while Nicholas fell head over heels, Kate wasn’t ready to commit. When she rebuffed him for the final time, Nicholas quietly exited town.
