"Montecito" New Soap Opera Launches With Old-School Format - Features Daytime Favorites
General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal several former GH stars have found a new soap home, along with several more from Days of Our Lives, and one from All My Children.

A new soap opera is launching with an old-school type format, like when soap operas debuted on radio-sound only, but in an upgraded podcast and You Tube format.

“Montecito” Is The New Exciting Audio Only Soap

Montecito is an upcoming audio soap opera that will showcase beloved stars-the soap opera genre is experiencing a significant revival, and 2025 may very well be the year of captivating narratives.

Following its February debut, Beyond The Gates has garnered impressive ratings, while scripted dramas like The White Lotus and Severance continue to generate excitement due to their engaging storytelling.

Now, a fresh soap opera is set to redefine the genre; for fans of soap operas and rich storytelling, this is fantastic news.

Michael Fairman recently hinted at exciting developments on X, previously known as Twitter, revealing that Montecito is in production.

However, there’s a unique twist: it will be presented in a classic audio format, marking the first soap opera in this style since 1960.

Rick Hearst Will Narrate, While Still Playing Ric Lansing

Rick Hearst is the announcer for “Montecito” while still playing Ric Lansing on GH; other former GH stars on the new soap are Emme Rylan (ex-Lulu Spencer) and Kelly Thiebaud (ex-Britt Westbourne).

From Days of Our Lives, Mike Manning, (Charlie Dale) Peter Porte (Dimitri Von Leuschner) and Crystal Chappelle (Carly Manning). Vincent Irizarry played David Hayward on All My Children and Deimos Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives. Those are a few of the legendary soap opera stars set to be featured in the series.

The initial two episodes are set to debut on Tuesday, April 22, with new episodes releasing every Tuesday until mid-June; it’s on Apple Podcasts and the Montecito YouTube Channel.

A New Era Of Soaps

Montecito signifies a revival of the classic format; soap operas originally emerged on radio prior to the advent of television, evoking a time when audiences yearned for compelling narratives.

In an age dominated by true crime and procedural dramas on social media, this return is essential; it also heralds a fresh chapter for soap operas.

Soaps started 95 years ago on the radio, while we’ve witnessed the genre’s ups and downs over the years. The launch of CBS’s Beyond The Gates marks the first new daytime drama in a quarter of a century, breathing new life into the format.

Back To The Beginning-With A New Beginning

Montecito revitalizes the genre, returning it to its roots as a high-quality audio serial. “We’ve assembled a cast featuring beloved daytime TV stars and are excited to introduce fresh talent as well,” stated series creator Grant Rutter in a message to Michael Fairman TV.

While Montecito is home to its share of shady characters, what truly captivates audiences is the complexity of these individuals, who navigate the gray areas between right and wrong.

However, specifics about the soap’s storyline remain scarce-the teaser is set to be released on Tuesday, April 15th. For more information about the new series, visit them on YouTube.
