MBFFL: Whitney Talks About Her Most Personal Decision Of Choosing A Donor
Whitney Way Thore, the reality star of My Big Fat Fabulous Life, talked about the most personal decision of choosing a sperm donor. She said that as her biological clock ticked louder, so did her chances of becoming a mother. She revealed to E! News that the donor selection process was very overwhelming. “It felt not much different than being on a dating app, but having way higher stakes,” she said. She also grew impatient as she noticed profiles with poor grammar and unappealing answers: “They almost seemed illiterate. And I was like, No, I can’t.”

Whitney’s patience was running out as she struggled with the decision. She decided to delegate the final choice to her close friend, Isaiah Martin, the husband of her trainer, Jessica Powell. “I honestly could not handle the responsibility,” Whitney admitted. She felt saying yes to motherhood, though, was a no-brainer. But choosing the donor was a struggle.
Thore was extremely disappointed when her first shot at insemination didn’t work out. She ruled out adoption as a viable option and kept surrogacy in mind as a future possibility since she had already frozen her eggs. At that moment, she said, “Why spend all that money if I could just try it myself?”
Whitney’s decision to pursue single motherhood without a partner is becoming an inspiration for women around the globe. For Thore, it is like imagining life with her mini-me. Despite setbacks, her focus is unwavering: “I’m very excited about the future.”
