From Fan Favorite to Backlash: Big Brother Winner Ashley Hollis Called Out for ‘Tone-Deaf’ Complaint
Big Brother recently wrapped up its latest season. Since then, one series alum has sparked a discussion online after sharing a recent post on X. However, the contestant has also responded to the recent discourse.

Fans Recently Saw Big Brother Finish Season 27 This Past September
Big Brother is an American adaptation of the Dutch series of the same name, launching on CBS in 2000. Recently, the series released Season 27 from July 10, wrapping up in September.
Over the years, various contestants, also known as “houseguests,” have developed followings. Recently, however, one series alum upset fans with a recent tweet.

Ashley Hollis recently won Big Brother 27, complete with the $750,000 cash prize. In a recent share on social media, Hollis revealed she helped celebrate the new year with a new BMW.
However, Hollis wasn’t entirely happy about her new purchase. As she shared during the post, “I really just want my car. Shame on BMW! They sold me a brand new 2026 car they didn’t charge properly, when my car came the battery light was on, and now are trying to say they will only pay for half and I need to pay the other $700! Excuse me?! A brand-new car!!!”
At the time, commenters expressed mixed feelings about the tweet. Given her recent success on Big Brother, some felt this was an issue she could easily take care of, even if they understood where she was coming from.
Ashley Hollis Herself Responded To Some Of The Comments On X
Hollis herself even responded to one of these comments. As one fan wrote:
- Rich ppl and their new BMW problems lol it’s not like you can’t afford $700. I get it’s the principle but still…
Hollis, however, shared that her comments were coming from the latter sentiment, feeling that it was the responsibility of the seller to make sure the car was in good condition.
The Big Brother star wrote, “I shouldn’t have to pay for their mistakes. It’s a brand-new car it shouldn’t have issues Day 1.” She also added that she was given a loaner car while the sellers were reportedly investigating what happened, later saying “corporate companies” take advantage of buyers these days. Later, she also advised commenters to be aware of their rights as consumers.

Hollis also appeared to indirectly allude to the criticism in a later X post. At the time, she talked about how New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife, Rama Duwaji, was called out for wearing leather boots worth more than $600 to her husband’s own swearing-in ceremony. Ashley noted, “Can we stop shaming people for having nice things in 2026?,” adding that Rama could have worked hard to earn the shoes.
In the comments to the original post, fans shared a number of reactions. While some were critical, others felt that there should have been a grace period to get help after a recent purchase. A few also pointed out that the situation could have been much worse. Some comments included:
- “Unacceptable! You should still have a few days before you can reverse the purchase, no?”
- “With everything going on in the world this is so tone deaf.”
- “With all respect, you just ‘won’ 750k. You do know you’re an adult and no dealership can sell you on a vehicle you don’t sign for, correct?”
- “There’s definitely more to this story. A faulty battery would be covered by warranty on a brand-new car.”
