Come April, a familiar face will be turning up on Days of Our Lives: Michael Dietz, who played Dr. Joe Scanlon on General Hospital spinoff Port Charles from 1997-99.
Soap Opera Digest reports that the daytime vet will be sticking around for an arc but was able to offer no details about the character that he’ll be playing. Our hunch? Dietz will be taking on one of two roles: either Doug 2.0’s father, the erstwhile Dougie LeClaire, or Kristen’s brother Peter Blake, who’s been MIA from Salem since 1998.

If Dietz is Dougie, he could give his son a stern talking-to and, if the kid is really lucky, get him a second chance with the relatives to whom he’s been such a menace. If the actor is Peter… well, we’d love to say that maybe he could provide a stabilizing force for his twisted sister. But more likely, Kristen would hatch a cockamamie plan to have him seduce Ava away from Brady so that she can have Rachel’s father all to herself.
Besides Port Charles — he was the first of the show’s three Joes — Dietz also appeared on Bold & Beautiful as the son of Clarke Garrison and Margo Maclaine (Days of Our Lives’ Lauren Koslow) and Guiding Light as a replacement Alan-Michael Spaulding (following the exit of Rick Hearst, now Ric on General Hospital). Since 2002, Dietz has been married to Paige Rowland, once Kit on All My Children. (That’s her with Dietz in the photo at the top of this story.)
