Tate looks at a photo of himself with Holly when Sophia comes to the townhouse. He puts his phone away upon answering the door. She wonders if he’s been avoiding her since Holly wants him back. Tate vows he’d never have sex with Sophia and then reunite with Holly. Sophia doesn’t want him to be with her out of obligation or if he’s still hung up on Holly. He kisses her. “Did that kiss feel like I want to be with you and only you?” Sophia thinks so but coyly asks him to try one more time to be sure. After more kissing, Sophia tells Tate how much she missed him. “Why don’t we go to your room so I can show you how much.”

Holly finds a brooding Aaron in the Square. She sits with him as he bluntly confirms the rumors. “Yes, my brother was arrested for trying to kill Chad DiMera.” He also admits the woman pretending to be Abigail is his sister. Holly reels, especially since she was at their wedding and ran into his brother Mark in Paris. Aaron explains Mark and Cat did what they did to save their mom from Clyde. Holly tells an emotional Aaron that she’s there for him if he needs anything. He thanks her for listening and they hug. They change the subject to Tate, with Aaron admitting he encouraged Tate to go for it with Sophia. Holly says he went for it alright and slept with her. She assures Aaron it’s not his fault, though. Tate just chose Sophia over her.

A mopey Aaron slumps at a table in the Square. His lips touch his drink's straw.

As Tate and Sophia make out in his bed, Tate calls Sophia by Holly’s name. She pulls away. “What did you just call me?”

JJ finds Chad at the Horton House and rants about EJ dropping the charges against Cat. She joins them in the living room. JJ goes off on her until Chad tells him he had EJ drop the charges. JJ has no sympathy for Cat and Mark’s plight. In fact, they are no better than Clyde for what they put his family through. JJ then accuses Chad of desecrating Abigail’s memory. Chad fires back that he’s trying to honor her by recovering her remains. He is using Cat as bait to get Clyde into the open. JJ calls that risky as hell but Cat declares she is okay with the risk. It’s the least she can do. Chad asks him to keep it a secret, but JJ says he can’t. They bicker some more before JJ storms out.

Gabi talks on her phone in her kitchen

Over the phone, Gabi gives Javi a list of errands to run as she comes home to the Hernandez house. It includes picking up ingredients for his mother’s tamales to celebrate Rafe’s return as commissioner.

At the Pub, Jada doesn’t know what to say to a grumbling Rafe about replacing him as police commissioner. Rafe does: “Congratulations.” There’s nothing for her to be sorry about because she’s a great cop, and he’s glad Paulina knows it. Roman overhears as Rafe tells Jada how deserving she is of the promotion.

When Jada gets called away, Roman offers to listen if Rafe wants to talk about it. Rafe plays it cool, insisting he’s happy for Jada. Roman urges Rafe to be honest with himself because suppressing his feelings is never a good thing. Rafe admits he’s angry. He has no problem taking orders from Jada or any woman, but he feels disrespected after putting his life on the line. But, he sighs, he’ll have to suck it up and deal with it. Roman suggests he sue the city instead. They had an obligation to hold his job until he recuperated from injuries sustained in the line of duty. Rafe knows that could get ugly, especially with Jada. Roman wonders how happy Rafe can be if he resents Jada having his job.

Jada comes home as Gabi prepares the tamales for Rafe’s celebratory dinner. Jada tells her she’s been asked to stay on as commissioner while Rafe has been demoted to detective. Gabi knows there’s no way in hell Rafe is okay with this. Jada isn’t happy about it either. She never wanted the job permanently. Gabi thinks that Jada is thrilled to be Salem’s first Black female commissioner. Gabi knows she loves Rafe, but she also knows what it’s like to be in competition with the man you love in the workplace. Jada admits that she would be honored to be named commissioner if Rafe hadn’t lost his job. She does like being in charge. Gabi promises not to tell Rafe but urges her to come clean with him. They have a real shot at being happy, but only if they are totally honest about this.

Rafe comes home to Jada, who wears oven mitts while holding the dish of tamales.  She tells him Gabi made them and also helped her realize she is excited about the job despite the circumstances. However, she doesn’t want it to come between them. Rafe doesn’t either, which is why he’s quitting.

A grinning Jada wears oven mitts in the Hernandez kitchen. Rafe playfully holds up her wrists.
