What’s surprising to fans is that Emma and James are third cousins. So not only are they breaking the Amish rule of “monitored dating,” but they are also engaging in cousin-cest. Even though some cultures may consider this legal and acceptable, fans are still cringing hard.
Moreover, they didn’t downright accept anything in the confessionals. James also stated clearly that they were not hooking up. Emma commented that she looks up to James and that he has taught her many things. Fans could sense the tension between the two when Emma softly asks James if he would date her. Emma has announced she is leaving the show and no longer wants to be part of it. Fans can’t tell whether “it” refers to the show or the cousin-cest. Either way, Emma doesn’t want a part in it.
In the clip, she reveals that she came here to teach the English cast how to live the Amish life. She says she did her best to set a good example for them. However, she also claims she needs a “better leader.” Emma looks at James longer than needed while saying it. The clip also features nighttime footage inside the house where Emma and James speak. Emma says she needs to go home, and James states, “Take care.”
In the confessional, she also tells James, “This is not why we’re here for. We’re supposed to teach them Amish.” Later, she adds she doesn’t want to be a part of it anymore. However, Emma refuses to answer any direct questions. One of the producers asks her if her leaving had anything to do with James.
