In tonight’s Suddenly Amish, the mission looks rough right about now. The Amish opened their doors to the English. They hoped to gain some new members of their church and they instead got a bunch of problems. This included losing one of their own. They might’ve lost one of the Amish. Emma couldn’t stay around James anymore.
It was suspected that the cousins had an inappropriate relationship and because of it she might find herself shunned after this. James was already shunned so he losing nothing. It was Emma who was considered a pillar that was going to feel the brunt of a shunning.
The English lost two of their own. They lost Matt. Which wasn’t a big loss all things considered. Matt was kinda full of himself. It seemed like he only returned to the show after leaving that first time was to sleep with Kendra. Kendra also had to leave because of their encounter.
She wanted to be away from being sexualized and she found herself still falling into old patterns. Matt had a thing for her. James had a thing for her. Its why things blew up with Emma. James being one of the last to standing after that love square blew up meant he was doing extra work for the Bishop.
James finished setting up the phone shanty. It looked like an outhouse and that didn’t matter. The important thing was that everyone got to call family. Judah didn’t even need the phone shanty because his mom suddenly showed up. Kierra wanted to check on her son.
She hadn’t heard from him in a while. She was worried about him. She also wanted to convince him to come home because she wasn’t onboard with the Amish lifestyle. She called it “crap”. She wanted to drag her son home and Judah was resisting.
Judah wasn’t a little kid anymore. He gets to decide where he goes. He even gets to decide how he worships God. His mother was against it, but she couldn’t stop him from being who he wanted to be. Kierra didn’t see that. She did everything she could to sabotage his remaining stay amongst the Amish.
She openly questioned the lifestyle. She planted traps for the others as well. She went as far as using her cell phone at the dinner table with the Amish across from her and if she wasn’t Judah’s mother – she’d have been tossed out of the house.
James called her a corrupting influence. He still didn’t run her off in spite of how much he wanted to. (Showing that what happened with Matt really was out of jealous). Though Kierra did stay at a hotel. Judah doesn’t think it was the same one that Matt and Kendra stayed in.
Then again he doesn’t know for sure. Judah later had a very frank conversation with his mother. He put up some boundaries and she finally saw that maybe he knows what he’s doing. She doesn’t think he’ll stay. She just figured he wanted to stay until the end with his friends.
Billie Jo also had some issues with her health. She suffered from extreme heat exhaustion. Its ironic that earlier she was complaining about missing the air conditioning and it seems her body missed it too because she got really sick. She had to be taken to the hospital.
The Amish were allowed to go to the hospital under extreme conditions. She met said conditions. She needed an IV. She was throwing up. The one person that stayed by her side through the whole thing was Judah. Judah and Billie Jo grew to be really close.
Judah said she completes him. Were they fine with just being friends or did want something more? Judah and Billie returned to the community once she began feeling better. They had a dinner. They were told that the Bishop would decide if they stay or go. James said he could put in a good word if he wanted to.
He liked toying with the English. Judah spotted that instantly. They all discussed what they would struggle with if they join the church. Esme was a behavioral analyst. She helped special needs kids.
In the Amish world, she was cleaning floors as a job. It was a bit of a stepdown for her. Aaron would miss the hearing aides if he joined the church. Billie Jo was also worried about their stance on the LGBT+ community.
She knew that Judah was bi. She was worried he wouldn’t get accepted if he stayed so depending on their reaction to him will also decide if Billie Jo. She refused to stay if Judah wasn’t going to be an outcast.
