Why “Survivor” Became 2025’s Most-Watched Emmy-Nominated Series?
Although the Emmy Awards, set to air on Sunday night on CBS, don’t award the most-watched shows, it’s nice to have an insight into which TV shows were the most popular among viewers. And the numbers may come as quite a surprise.

In a new Nielsen report of how many hours were watched of the series in the top Emmy categories, it was revealed that CBS’ “Survivor” — which broke back into the race this year, nudging out “The Voice” — racked up more than twice as many viewing hours as any other show nominated for best drama, comedy, limited or reality competition series, during the eligibility period.

The next closest series in terms of viewership is “The White Lotus,” with 210.7 million hours viewed, topping the drama series nominees. The most-watched comedy series is ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” with 184.1 million hours, and the top-watched limited or anthology is “Monsters: The Lyle and Eric Menendez Story” with 149.5 million.
Release dates also have a big impact on the list; “The Studio” for example, only came out in March and was airing on one streamer, Apple TV+; “Abbott Elementary” was on ABC beginning in October and had past seasons (and the current, available next day) streaming on Hulu throughout the window.
Below is a breakdown of the other series nominees and their total hours viewed in the Emmys window, per Nielsen:
Outstanding Reality Competition Series
“Survivor”: 462.4 million
“RuPaul’s Drag Race”: 139.1 million
“The Amazing Race”: 132.7 million
“Top Chef”: 94.1 million
“The Traitors” with 93.2 million
