The Young and the Restless is mourning the sad loss of one of their former cast members. Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff. The 62-year-old actress, and ex-wife of Baywatch star David Hasselhoff, was known to daytime fans as the original Mari Jo Mason in the mid-1990s.

The news of her passing was first reported by TMZ which revealed that she died by suicide on March 5 after family members asked law enforcement officials to do a wellness check. She reportedly died from a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” and did not leave a note behind. Hasselhoff confirmed the news to the media outlet and shared a statement.

“Our family is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Pamela Hasselhoff,” the statement read. “We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time but we kindly request privacy as we grieve and navigate through this challenging time.”

Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bach got her start in the entertainment industry as a model at the age of 14. Her career took her to New York first where the 18-year-old worked as a “shoe” and “sweater” model. “I was on a lot of yarn labels wearing a sweater,” she told the Los Angeles Times in 1995. She made her feature film debut in 1983 in Francis Ford Coppola’s Rumble Fish and then continued her pursuit in the arts at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College for two years before moving to Los Angeles in 1985.

She had immediate success, landing roles on T.J. Hooker, Cheers and The Fall Guy, but it was her one-episode gig at Betty on Knight Rider that led her to Hasselhoff both on and off screen. They married in 1989 and started their family a year later with the birth of their first daughter, Taylor-Ann, 34. Two years later, daughter Hayley, 32, arrived and Bach continued her acting career with roles in The Young and the Restless, Baywatch and Baywatch Nights.

Coincidentally, the exes both spent time in Genoa City — Hasselhoff stepped into the role of Dr. Snapper Foster between 1975 and 1982 while Bach created the role of Mari Jo, eventually being replaced by Diana Barton. Bach is of no relation to Catherine Bach, who played a recurring role as Anita Lawson from 2012-2019.

Bach’s daughters have remained silent about the loss of their mother, but Hayley shared anm iage of her parents at the opening of Jurassic Park: The Ride on June 15, 1996, in her Instagram Story along with a white heart — Bach looked glowingly happy with a big smile on her face.
