‘Suddenly Amish’ cast member Judah says he’s done hiding in raw and emotional reveal

‘Suddenly Amish’ Cast Member Judah Comes Out as Bisexual in Emotional On-Camera Moment

A quiet confessional turned into one of the most personal moments yet on TLC’s newest social experiment series.

Judah, a 22-year-old cast member on Suddenly Amish, has come out as bisexual — a decision that unfolded unexpectedly during filming and is already resonating with viewers. The series, set in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, follows six non-Amish participants — often referred to as “English” — as they leave behind modern conveniences to immerse themselves in the traditions and daily rhythms of an Amish community.

But while the show centers on culture shock and lifestyle adjustments, Judah’s journey has also become deeply personal.

“I’ve Always Felt Different”

Before sharing the news with his fellow cast members, Judah opened up in a confessional interview about the internal conflict he has carried for years.

“I’ve always felt and been different,” he said. “It can just feel like sometimes I have a mask everywhere I go. I kind of just want to take the mask off and be free.”

He also reflected on the broader pressures he feels as a Black man discussing sexuality. “I feel like my sexuality, in the Black community, especially for Black men, isn’t really talked about. Anything other than straight is filled with shame,” he explained. “I don’t know if I want to tell my Amish family because I don’t know if the same cycle will happen.”

His words highlighted a layered reality: navigating identity not only within a traditional religious environment, but also within cultural spaces where conversations around sexuality can be complex and sensitive.

An Unexpected Reveal

Rather than staging a formal announcement, Judah’s coming-out moment happened during a lighthearted group activity. While playing “Shabooya Roll Call,” a rhythmic name-introduction game, he casually added a new detail to his verse:

“My name is Judah… and I am bi.”

The tone was playful, but the impact was significant. The moment marked a shift — not just within the group dynamic, but in Judah’s own journey toward openness.

Reflecting afterward, he explained his reasoning clearly: “I decided to tell my English folks about my sexuality. I don’t want to start off with a lie or hiding things. It’s time for me to be who I am for real.”

A Broader Conversation

Suddenly Amish was designed as a cultural immersion experiment, but Judah’s storyline underscores how identity, faith, race, and sexuality intersect in ways that extend far beyond lifestyle changes. His decision to speak openly may invite broader conversations among viewers about acceptance, representation, and authenticity — both inside and outside religious communities.

As the season continues, questions remain about how Judah’s honesty will shape his relationships within the group and whether he will choose to share more of his story with the Amish families involved in the experience.

For now, one thing is clear: Judah has taken what he describes as a step toward freedom.

New episodes of Suddenly Amish continue to explore the personal and cultural challenges facing the cast. Viewers can expect more candid moments — and perhaps more unexpected revelations — as the season unfolds.
