The latest Shocking New Questions episode turns the spotlight on “Survivor” as fans and insiders alike try to figure out how CBS’ reality giant has managed to stay so powerful for 26 years and counting.
“There was so much I was sitting on and photos I was sitting on that I couldn’t share with anyone. But it was emotional going out there,” Longeretta says. “It’s really amazing to see something last on network TV this long and continue to grow. And the numbers that we included in our story were just so impressive to see. I cannot believe how many people are still watching the show and still loving it.”
Hailu became a “Survivor” fan a few years ago and eventually worked her way through past seasons, uncovering what makes the series stand apart from the many reality hits that followed in its wake.
“What I’ve observed in the conversations I have while watching ‘Survivor’ — and the conversations I have in the office the next morning with my colleagues who also watch it — is that we all come to the show for different reasons. We all resonate with wildly different characters,” Hailu says. “With scripted shows that I watch or even other reality shows, a lot of times the people in my life I find we have pretty aligned perspectives on which characters we like and what we want to see happen. ‘Survivor’ is the one where all of the people that I love that watch it, we’re all coming to it with such strong, strong feelings in so many different directions.”
