Heartbreaking Emmerdale twist: Jacob and Sarah’s baby name quietly pays tribute to two beloved characters
Emmerdale delivered an emotional tribute to two characters tonight as Jacob and Sarah Sugden’s baby name was finally revealed. The latest episode opened with the young couple reflecting on everything that had happened around the birth, including how Dr Todd — difficult as she can be — stepped in when it mattered most, with Jacob reluctantly admitting that she is brilliant in a crisis.

At the urging of one of the staff, Sarah brought the baby in for a feed. She was initially worried she hadn’t given enough, but was reassured that the newborn’s stomach is only the size of a marble, so there was nothing to worry about.

The couple then took the baby into Charity’s hospital room, where they let her hold the newborn and told her they would “never forget” how she went “above and beyond” for them.
They also revealed the baby’s name: Leyla Charity Sugden.
The middle name is a heartfelt nod to everything Charity did for them, while the first name honours Jacob’s late mum, who died in the limo crash at the beginning of 2025.
The moment became deeply emotional for Jacob, who had to step out of the room. Kerry Wyatt followed him and comforted him, telling him that his mum would have been incredibly proud of him.

But the warm celebration may not last for long, as Dr Todd’s heroic rescue has not triggered any change of heart.
She attempted to use what she had done to pressure Jacob into withdrawing his statement, but he insisted that her behaviour only strengthened his determination to keep fighting and push ahead with his complaint — especially for the staff members who have already walked away because of her.
Hurt by the setback, Todd later discovered from the medical records that baby Leyla was not the result of a surrogate arrangement, but was actually conceived after Ross and Charity slept together. The big question now is how soon she will use that information to get what she wants?
