OMG! Minutes ago, Survivor 50 just introduced one of the show’s biggest twists of all time

We know something wild was about to happen in Survivor 50 episode 8, “Double the Fun, Double the Demise,” but I don’t know if I really expected anything like this.
Before the immunity challenge, the Survivor 50 players received word that they needed to pair up. They didn’t know why, and they certainly could not have predicted what would actually happen. Cirie Fields was the odd player out.

Jeff Probst reveals two players are getting voted out of episode 8 together as a pair
When they arrived at the challenge, Jeff Probst revealed the big twist. The pairs would run the immunity challenge together, working through an obstacle course while also solving a puzzle of sorts. The three pairs who finish this part first move on to the final round of the immunity challenge where one pair will win immunity.
We’ve seen things like this on Survivor in the past, but the stakes have never been this high Because she wasn’t part of a pair, Cirie gets sent to Exile Island to sit out the real twist.
Probst, then, reveals everyone else is up to be voted out at Tribal Council, but the pair will get voted out together. So, two players are going home, and they will be voted out together.
Here are the pairs who could be voted out together:
- Ozzy and Stephenie
- Tiffany and Joe
- Devens and Aubry
- Coach and Chrissy
- Rizo and Emily
- Christian and Jonathan
In the first leg of the challenge, Devens and Aubry, Joe and Tiff, and Ozzy and Stephenie move on to the final part of the challenge.
In the end, Joe and Tiff win the final stage of the immunity challenge, and they are safe at Tribal Council.
The last part of the twist is that Cirie has a chance to earn her vote back AND attend Tribal Council if she finds a phoenix logo among a bajillion coconuts.

We have never seen a twist like this in US Survivor history
Over the years, we’ve seen so many massive twists in Survivor. Even this season, we watched three players go home in one night! There’s no doubt this is up there and even bigger than most, if not all, of those twists.
Redemption Island is probably bigger than this because it allowed players to have a second life in the game. You can go back to the first hidden immunity idol, too, as a massive twist. Then, it just became part of the gameplay.
This is different, though. We’ve never seen players tied together. We’ve never seen one immunity idol protect two players, as Jeff reveals after the challenge. I just don’t think that’s very fair, but hey, this is Survivor. The rules are made up!
Still, it just feels like we’re doing a little too much manufacturing drama instead of just letting the drama play out naturally. The craziest moments in Survivor history, like Advantagegeddon, when Cirie was eliminated from the game by default, happened more naturally than whatever this is.
I don’t know how much I love this, honestly. We haven’t had a normal episode of Survivor 50 post-merge yet, and that’s kind of disappointing. I think there’s going to be some big reactions to this twist from fans, and I’m eager to find out just what that’s going to be like.
Coach and Chrissy were voted out
In the end, Chrissy and Coach were voted out of Survivor 50. Together, they become the first pair in Survivor history to exit the game together. Ultimately, this pair was doomed the second they lost the challenge. There was a chance that Rick and Aubry could be on the chopping block, but it always makes sense to take a two-for-one deal when you get it in Survivor, and that’s what happened.
Honestly, if I were Chrissy, I would be quite upset. Clearly, people were trying to take a shot at Coach with this vote, and ultimately, that’s what happened. She was basically lumped in with him, and that took her out of the game.
On the flipside, though, Chrissy was part of Coach’s alliance, so by them being paired up together, the target on their backs was so massive that it just made sense for them to go home.
