Survivor 50 continues to rewrite the record books. The season began with the biggest cast in Survivor history at 24 players, and then delivered the show’s largest merge yet with 17 players.
Now, Survivor 50 has hit another milestone, with Jeff Probst confirming that the season just delivered the largest Tribal Council in the show’s history.
In Survivor 50 episode 7, “That’s Not How I Play Survivor,” 14 players went to Tribal Council and 13 of them cast votes, setting a new all-time record. Dee Valladares, who was voted out in the episode, used her Shot in the Dark.
Heading into the episode, and after the Blood Moon twist, many expected the group to split into two smaller Tribals of seven. Instead, fans got the season’s first massive Tribal Council, and it instantly became one of the standout moments of the season.
There have been other huge Tribal Councils in Survivor history with 13 players. The last one came in Survivor: Island of the Idols (season 39), and it remains one of the franchise’s most controversial episodes. Kellee Kim was voted out over Dan Spilo in an 8-5 vote, and Dan was later removed from Survivor after allegations of inappropriate touching.
We’ve also seen Tribal Councils with 12 or 11 players over the years. Technically, because Dee played her Shot in the Dark, there weren’t more votes cast here than in that season 39 Tribal. Even so, this is clearly the biggest non-Final Tribal Council the show has ever seen.

Survivor 50 will not have the largest Final Tribal Council in the show’s history

No matter how Survivor 50 plays out, even with the 17-player merge, the season will not deliver the biggest Final Tribal Council in the show’s history when it comes to votes cast.
The biggest Final Tribal Council in Survivor history came in Survivor: Winners at War (season 40). That season saw 16 players vote for the winner of the landmark all-winners season. Tony Vlachos received 12 votes to Natalie Anderson’s four, while Michelle Fitzgerald finished third runner-up with zero votes.
In Survivor 50, assuming no one is removed from the game due to injury or illness, 14 players will vote at Final Tribal Council with three finalists.
That means Survivor: Winners at War, thanks to the Redemption Island twist that kept all the former winners in the game until the end, will remain the biggest Final Tribal Council in the show’s history.
And honestly, that record may never be broken. It’s hard to imagine a 19-player Final Tribal Council ever happening again. If Survivor 50 has proven anything, it’s that 24 players in a 26-day season may simply be too many. The game is looking more compressed than ever, and the players themselves have not been shy about calling it out in exit press.
Stay tuned for more updates on Survivor 50 as the season keeps delivering history-making twists and shocking Tribal Councils.
