It looks like Survivor fans are about to be hit with another double elimination ahead of the Survivor 50 finale.
With the season finale fast approaching, host Jeff Probst sat down with TV Insider to talk through the season and preview the last two episodes. During the conversation, Probst appeared to tip his hand about the finale, seemingly confirming that the season will once again end with a final five. That means the penultimate episode is set to feature yet another double elimination.
“What is most striking to me about our final five is that there is no single blueprint for how they got there. Every one of them brought a unique strategic approach to their game. They trusted their instincts and stayed committed to their specific point of view on how to play. And it earned each of them a shot to win this game,” Probst revealed. “There also isn’t one clear frontrunner. It’s truly wide open. For real. Going into the finale, any one of the five could win, and a lot will come down to who is sitting next to whom in the final three.”
Based on Probst’s comments, the penultimate episode airing May 13 is expected to deliver another double elimination, making it the fifth episode this season to send home more than one player. With the finale so close, it will be tough to watch two more games come to an end, and there’s still no clear sign of the twist CBS has planned to get the final five locked in.
So far, every episode that has sent more than one player home at tribal council has delivered plenty of drama, including some of the season’s most memorable moments and biggest shocks. The first double tribal council saw Angelina and Charlie voted out; the blood moon twist ended Genevieve’s, Colby’s, and Dee’s games; then came the double duo twist, which led to Coach’s and Chrissy’s exits; and most recently, another double tribal council at the top nine sent Emily and Ozzy home.
With only seven players left and the finale drawing closer, no one appears safe. As the game has already shown, loyalty can disappear in an instant, and an ally can just as quickly turn on you if it helps their own path forward. With the prize money now doubled, every one of the remaining seven players is chasing the $2 million reward.
The real question is how this latest double elimination will be executed in the penultimate episode. CBS has made each multi-player exit feel different this season, so there’s no telling what the producers have lined up to move the top seven down to the final five. No matter how it happens, it’s likely to be a painful night for two players whose journeys will end just before the finish line.
Aubry, Cirie, Joe, Jonathan, Rick, Rizo, and Tiffany all still have a route to the final five, but every one of them will need to make the right moves at the right time to earn a spot in the finale. Rizo appears to be in the strongest position thanks to an idol still in play. If he learns from Ozzy’s mistakes and actually plays it instead of keeping it in his pocket, he should reach the final five for the second straight season, which would be a major achievement.
As for everyone else, it’s impossible to predict who will survive the next round. The immunity challenge is likely to play a major role in shifting the tribe’s focus, and several players seem ready to make a move against a big target. That should make for a tense episode, with one player heading to the jury and another suddenly finding their name in danger.
