The Dingle family is at a total loss as Cain continues to spiral after his life-changing ordea. Unexpected saviour! The one man who just pulled cain back from the brink
Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) would be nothing without his super doc pal Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson).
He probably wouldn’t even be alive, quite frankly.
Liam’s pep talks have saved Cain on many occasions, but most recently, when Cain decided he wasn’t going to go ahead with his prostate cancer op, choosing to risk death instead of ruining his sex life and thus his marriage, Liam was the first to tell him what an idiot he was being.
Liam is also the only one who can do that.
Liam also didn’t hesitate in telling Cain’s wife Moira (Natalie J Robb) who swiftly put an end to his idiocy. The op went ahead and all was well, except for Cain’s state of mind.
One look at the catheter bag strapped to his leg and Cain immediately spiralled. He thought he’d be incontinent for the rest of his life, and it took another talk from Liam to calm him down – it was just standard post-surgery aftercare.
Cain cannot accept the cancer or the change it’s making to his life. He’s disregarded the fact he’s just had surgery and needs to recover. He’s pushing himself, he’s winding himself up, all the things the doctors had advised against.
In fairness, he does have the pretty mega situation of taking down Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) on his mind.
He and Moira have roped in Joe’s fiancé Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) to enact a terrible revenge plot for the Tate heir after he got Moira locked up on false charges and took her beloved farm from under her. So Cain is keen to see it through.
But his cancer is still there, and his body needs to slow down. He has the catheter removed and is relieved that it means his worst fears aren’t coming true. But he’s far too proud to admit that he’s still unwell. He’s risking further damage.
But Liam knows how to handle this exact situation. He ignores Cain’s brutish exterior and urges his pal to put his pride to one side. But will Cain listen?
