The Love Island USA and Survivor connection in Fiji is far more dramatic than fans ever expected. Two of reality TV’s biggest summer powerhouses are not just filming in the same country — they’re operating in the same slice of paradise, and crews are taking extraordinary steps to make sure their worlds never touch.
On one side, Peacock’s glossy dating juggernaut delivers hot sun, high drama and endless villa flirting. On the other, CBS’s survival epic is built on exhaustion, strategy and brutal eliminations. Yet behind the scenes, both productions are quietly running side-by-side in Fiji’s stunning Mamanuca Islands.
Production insiders say Love Island USA Season 8 is filming on Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu, while Survivor Season 51 has wrapped and Season 52 is already in motion — because the franchise now shoots back-to-back every summer.
The overlap doesn’t stop at the waterline. Eliminated Survivor players and key crew members are staying at the same resort complex used as a production base for Love Island USA, turning the whole operation into a tightly controlled, high-security reality TV hub.
“Each show has completely separate producers, directors and editorial teams,” one source said. “But there’s overlap with local crew. Over half of the support staff bounce between both productions during the season.”
That includes local Fijians working as camera operators, production assistants, technical staff and construction teams, all helping to build everything from extravagant villa spaces to the challenge structures that define Survivor.
According to the insider, the arrangement has become a well-oiled machine after years of both franchises calling Fiji home. Even so, the shared setup remains one of TV’s best-kept behind-the-scenes secrets.
The U.S. Sun also learned that Survivor’s famous “Ponderosa” — the place where voted-out players decompress after being eliminated — has operated out of Mana Island Resort, the same hotel complex that hosts much of the Love Island cast and crew during filming.
That separation matters. Keeping eliminated contestants out of sight is one of the biggest ways producers prevent leaks and protect the results before episodes air.
And while both shows share the same broader compound, insiders insist there is no cast crossover at all.
“There’s no partying together, no hanging out and no interactions allowed whatsoever,” the source said. “The networks enforce very strict separation rules to protect the integrity and secrecy of both shows.”
The secrecy push has only become more important as both franchises continue to grow into summer TV juggernauts. Survivor has filmed in Fiji continuously since 2016, after previously rotating through locations around the world.
Fiji quickly became the show’s permanent base thanks to tax incentives, dependable weather and the remote beaches needed to support a massive production operation. Host Jeff Probst has even called it the best location the series has ever used.
Love Island USA made its own move to Fiji in 2023 for Season 5 after earlier runs in Las Vegas, California and Hawaii. The relocation gave the show the bigger, more lavish villa look fans now expect.
Both series now stand as two of the most recognizable names in reality TV, and their shared Fiji base only adds another layer to the off-screen story. For now, the rule is simple: the island may be shared, but the castaways and bombshells are never allowed to cross paths.
