From a record-breaking 24-person all-star cast and the return of Exile Island, to the controversial Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol and the first-ever “Blood Moon” triple-elimination ceremony, “Survivor” has already introduced plenty of game-changing twists and turns to celebrate its milestone 50th season.
That being said, with 13 castaways still vying for the chance to be named the next “Sole Survivor,” it doesn’t seem like Jeff Probst is planning to take his foot off the gas anytime soon as the remaining players settle into the Merge. In fact, CBS is already teasing another never-before-seen double-elimination twist for the season’s next episode, set to air on Wednesday, April 15.

According to the official CBS synopsis for the upcoming episode of “Survivor 50,” titled “Double the Fun, Double the Demise,” the network teased that the remaining 13 castaways must “divide themselves into pairs” for this week’s Immunity challenge, where Probst will reveal “one of the biggest twists ever seen in ‘Survivor’ history.”
While the episode’s description doesn’t go into detail, it’s clear from the looks on the castaways’ faces in sneak-peek footage that the twist is shocking. The first-look clip similarly shows the remaining players split into teams of two, facing an immunity challenge with six corresponding color-coded courses.
With an odd number of contestants remaining, Cirie Fields is left as the odd woman out.
But what does this partnered challenge mean for the castaways? Fans seem to have a pretty good idea – though not everyone is excited for how it could play out if they’re right.
Fans Think ‘Survivor’ is Staging First-Ever ‘Tied Destinies’ Twist
Since the “Next Time on ‘Survivor’” clip aired following Dee Valladares’ elimination last week, fans have been speculating – and dreading in equal measure – that the “biggest twist” in series history will be something called the “Tied Destinies” twist.
While the game mechanic has never been seen on the U.S. flagship series, it’s been a staple of international versions of the show, including its French and South African iterations.
Here’s how the “Tied Destinies” twist works: The castaways, separated into pairs, will have their fate “tied” to that of their partner, for better or worse.
This means that, if, for example, Ozzy Lusth wins Individual Immunity again, his partner – in this case Stephenie LaGrossa – would also win Immunity and safety from being voted out at Tribal Council.

On the flip side, however, it also means that whichever castaway receives the most votes at Tribal Council will not only find themselves eliminated from the competition, but also their challenge partner. Using the same pair from above as an example, if Stephenie were to be voted off the island, she would, in theory, drag Ozzy to the Jury with her.
The paired castaways do not have to vote together, though it would be mutually beneficial to work together to avoid elimination by proxy.
With Cirie Fields left out of the pairings in the first-look preview, fans believe that she will spend the remainder of the episode on Exile Island, similar to how Ozzy and Rizo Velovic were sequestered on the deserted island during the “Blood Moon” triple-elimination twist.
For now, this is all purely speculative. To find out the truth behind “one of the biggest twists in ‘Survivor’ history,” be sure to tune into a brand new episode of “Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans” on Wednesday, April 15 at 8:00pm ET.
